Press Release 26/3/2010

Briefing to the Foreign Diplomatic Community in KL on the Violation of Minority and Human Rights Report 2009 by the Human Rights party.

Today the 26th of March 2010, the foreign diplomatic community in Kuala Lumpur, for the first time, was briefed on Human Rights Violations against the Ethnic Minority Malaysian Indians. This event is conducted by the Human Rights Party of Malaysia.

The objective of the briefing is to create increased awareness in the International community of the gross violations occurring in Malaysia against the Indian minority community. At the briefing the attendees were presented a copy of the Annual Report on the Human Rights Violations Against the Ethnic Minority Malaysian  Indians 2009 prepared by Hindraf Makkal Sakthi, summarizing the occurrences of the violations of these Rights for the year 2009.

The briefing includes among various other issues the issue of summary killings and deaths of suspected Indian criminals while in police custody, the violation of rights in the practice of religion, the violation of rights for education , the gross imbalances in opportunities for participation in the economy, the ongoing ban of a legitimate organization representing the marginalized Indians– Hindraf the non registration of HRP and of the various vindicative and wanton cases of sedition against the leaders of Hindraf and the Human Rights Party.

12 representatives from the offices, High Commissions and Embassies attended from UNDP, Switzerland, Poland, Canada, Austria, Indonesia, Sweden, Belgium, France, Romania, US and Germany attended this briefing this morning at the Human Rights party Headquarters. It is hoped that the International community will begin to rally to the cause of the marginalized and oppressed Indian minority community in the country to rid the country of this malaise by including these violations of Fundamental Human Rights in regulating the various aspects of their relationships with the Government of Malaysia.

Thank You.

Yours Faithfully,
