This is our HRP’s first break through with the National Registration Department (NRD) Director of Births, Deaths and Adoptions En. Mohd Azmin Hassan after meeting him at his Putrajaya office on 13/8/2010.
But P. Uthayakumar at a Press Conference at the HRP HQ today morning (3/9/10) expressed disappointment that the NRD had refused to :-
1. go to the ground on a pro active basis to resolve this problem within 3 months.
2. send the NRD mobile unit to estates, flats, Indian squatter, colonies and poor Indian settlements as done for the orang asli.
3. send their officers to us officers nationwide to attend to applicants and to facilitate us to assist and monitor the process.
We are disappointed that the said NRD Director is only prepared to attend to individual cases brought to their attention.
The family of Thayalan and Selvi had today come all the way from Penang to highlight their plight pain and suffering they had been enduring for up to the last 17 years for the children and up to 35 years for their fourth generation Malaysian born father Thayalan who was denied his birth certificate and IC by the UMNO regime. And how his six children were denied even primary school education and they will not be able to pursue skills, training, higher education, get even a security guard or factory workers job, get a motorcycle or car licence or open a bank account or buy a house, car motorcycle or even an Insurance policy. And now UMNO has destroyed this families and an estimated 150,000 others denied their B.C and 300,000 others denied their IC compliments to UMNO for socially engineering these stateless Indian community.
Uthayakumar had stated that this level of indignity does not happen to a Chinese, Malay, orang asli, Kadazan or Iban. Only to this poor and powerless Indian community. Why?
Uthayakumar said that UMNO’s racist and religious supremacist policies must end with the urgent introduction of an Anti Racial Discrimination Act to outlaw all forums of racial and religious discrimination in Malaysia.
Even in Indonesia, the world’s largest islamic country, this Race Discrimination Act 2008 was passed outlawing all forums of racism and religious extremism.
