Tamil schools are here to stay. This year 16,000 students enrolled in 523 Tamil schools nationwide (Malaysia Nanban, 4.1.2011, front page). Many of the Tamil schools in Selangor, Johor and Perak recorded and increase in their enrolment. This is really a slap in the face for the sadist UMNO government. UMNO, for the past 40 years or so has been trying all sorts of bloody tricks to wipe out the Tamil schools in Malaysia. The government not only abandoned the Tamil schools in cowshed-like condition, but also very shrewdly maintains the schools as partially-aided schools, although all Malay schools are made fully-aided schools. UMNO has also robbed many pieces of land allocated for Tamils schools in broad daylight!
Nevertheless, despite all these, many of the Indian parents continue to send their children to Tamil schools. What is the implied message to the government? Indians want Tamil schools to stay, their native language be preserved and their rights to be accorded duly. It is a clear sign of ‘NO’ to the suggestion of abolishing vernacular schools and most importantly to ‘Islamisation’ of Malaysia which has been so rampant in the last decade!
