Fear riddled Indians

Even in the many deaths in police custody and by police shooting, police brutality, indiscriminate Hindu temple demolishment cases and in almost all other cases of gross human rights violations, the Indians were just too fearful to act and/or to react even peacefully at a public place for example a peaceful protest outside a police station, at the Suhakam office et-cetera. In my mind I had on numerous occasions thought that I was fighting a losing battle as without public support we would not get very far. We soldiered on irrespective with no or very little support even from almost all of my lawyer friends. So it may just be a “cry in the wilderness” as my friend Mick Menon once told me at the Rotary Club of Damansara weekly meeting of which I had been a member until shortly before my arrest under the ISA on 13th December 2007. I had got myself mentally prepared so that I would not get disappointed in the event that I walk into jail all alone one day. (Note: The events just before, on and after the 25th of November 2007 Hindraf Rally proved me wrong).

At this fund raising dinner an announcement was made that on the 28th day of  July 2007, Hindraf would be launching my research findings from the Public
Records Office in Kew, London (in the form of a 547 pages book titled “50 years of constitutional violations by the UMNO controlled Malaysian Government)
