As usual this poor Indian man G. Sugumaran who cannot afford the bail or money to pay his lawyers, is forced to plead guilty and arbitrarily be sentenced to two years jail and one stroke of the rotan.
The rotan is usually only imposed on violent criminals. But running away from rehabilitation centre is not violent crime!
This man has been on the run for ten years but in these 10 years has never committed any offence or not proven to still be a drug addict. For all we know he may have already repented.
Where is the principle of benefit of the doubt we all studied in our first year of Law studies?
And why such a harsh two years jail and rotan sentence on him in the 97% Malay muslim dominated Malay-sian courts?
