Volunteers flood our office
I left my office in Mutiara Bangsar at about 7. 30 p. m. to catch up with the 8. 00 p. m. prime time TV3 news. Indra fetched me and drove me home. My staff Shanta stayed back as the volunteers were still compiling the signature pages of the petition to Queen Elizabeth II and the phone calls were coming in non-stop. People had already begun arriving in KL and were calling us for the latest updates. So some of the volunteers had to stay back till late as the volunteers who had been working from the morning started leaving. In the interim Rajamohan and his friends from Klang had came over to the office. My sister Waytha Nayagi who is also the twin sister of Waytha Moorthy, Waytha Moorthy’s wife Nageswari @ Shanti and Waytha Moorthy’s loyal friends, Shakila and Renuka were also at my legal firm attending to last minute chores, answering phone calls and attending to the people who were walking into the office. Vasantha our main coordinator from Penang Island came earlier but I did not really get time to speak to her. I had merely said hello very briefly. In the mean time we also got calls that there were a couple of thousand people gathered at Batu Caves. There had been SMSes circulating that people are to gather at the Batu Caves temple and to proceed from there onwards to the KL City Centre on the following day. I got back in time to watch the 8. 00 p. m. TV3, TV1 and TV2 news and the Astro Vaanavil news at 8. 30 p. m. .
The UMNO controlled government propaganda against the Hindraf peaceful assembly the following day was the headlines but was reported in a negative light. A strong message was put up for people not to attend the Hindraf rally by the police top brass including the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan. This IGP is about the latest of the police top brass that I have had serious encounters with. In the mean time we were also getting telephone calls and SMSes that a shooting order on sight had been issued for those attending the said Hindraf event. I suspected that it must have been the rumors spread by the police special branch in their desperate attempt to foil the event. I had to have an abrupt dinner as some friends were coming in and out of my residence. I would normally have a leisurely and slow dinner as I enjoy good food in particular my wife Indra’s cooking. Malaysiakini. com camera crew Indra and Maran had called to ask if they could come over to my place to do a final interview before the D-Day the following day.
