My mother’s Brown Gardens Penang house sold for my law studies
We then proceeded to the nearby Penang Island Krishna Hindu temple. On the way I passed by Brown Gardens where my mother used to own a medium cost double storey terrace house but which was sold for RM91,500.00 in 1984 for my law studies in London. I was told that in and around the Butterworth Hindu temple there had been three roadblocks since the night before but the Indians were no more fearful of the police or their intimidating presence. This was another first since the run up to the November 25th Hindraf Rally and immediately thereafter. The Indians have lost their blind fear of the police. Similarly as we arrived at the Penang Hindu temple a platoon of the police light strike force was in attendance right outside the temple. We ignored them. After a “homam” pooja (special prayers by the fire) I addressed the crowd very briefly. Here again a Hindraf supporter presented me a gold ring. Both this ring and the earlier gold chain looked used and I gather that it was a spontaneous move to present me the same. In the Penang temple too we had set free 69 birds to symbolise freedom for the 69 Batu Caves temple Hindraf peaceful assemblers who had been denied bail and were still languishing in jail. At that point our thinking was to continue with this Hindu temple prayers and to set free 69 birds in all our subsequent nationwide prayer meetings until all of them were freed. On the way back to Kuala Lumpur we had met a group of supporters led by Siva from Selama at the Bukit Merah Lake Resort. We discussed plans to organize a local forum at Taiping. I had also asked this group to help us bail out the Hindraf peaceful assemblers using their land titles which was to be backed up by a Valuation report. After dinner we left for KL
after a group photo was taken with these Hindraf supporters.
