YOURSAY ‘Why can’t you also fight for all the poor Malaysians who are suffering as much as the poor Indians.’
Disgusted: Hindraf de facto leader P Uthayakumar, you should be asking what Pakatan Rakyat intends to do for all Malaysians, be they Malay, Chinese, Indians or the ethnic native groups.
Every group has the poor and marginalised. When you ask ethnic groups such as Orang Asli and those in Sarawak and Sabah, they will say they are the poorest and the most marginalised. Pakatan should take care of them as well.
Pakatan’s policy should not be to give handouts, but create an environment and opportunities for self-help and long-term sustainment. The poor need job opportunities without any favouritism. They need educational facilities and the chance to be able to stand on their own feet.
We must get rid of the beggar mentality and try to build our future with hard work and good work ethics. Laziness and indifference should have no place in society.
Anyone who is willing to work hard, make sacrifices and has talents and abilities, should be given help to achieve success, and not be stymied by roadblocks based on race, religion or political affiliation.
Blackberry: I am in total agreement with ‘Disgusted’. Hindraf should be talking about what the next government is going to do for all poor Malaysians instead of only Indians.
We should be moving away from race and ethnic-base thinking as this is what the Umno and BN want us to do.
I agree with you that you are fighting for the poor Indians, but why can’t you also fight for all poor Malaysians who are suffering as much as the poor Indians?
Swipenter: Poverty does not discriminate based on race. Only Umno discriminates based on race.
So what are trying to say, Hindraf? That poverty is exclusive to Indians? Doesn’t Pakatan’s needs-based policies say it all, or do you still prefer Umno’s race-based policies to eradicate poverty.
Hang Tuah PJ: Be there on April 28 at Dataran Merdeka to lend your support for Bersih 3.0. You support us, we support you. Biasa lah.
ABBN: Uthayakumar, you are not an Indian national. You are a Malaysian of Indian origin living together with other Malaysians of Malay, Chinese and other origins in a multiracial society. This country belongs to all the Malaysians.
‘Ketuanan Melayu’ does not encompass all Malaysians of Malay origin. It is only a small fraction, the corrupt Malay elites and the Umnoputras in power, who are claiming ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ and looting this country, and they are not sharing it with the majority Malay poor.
Don’t ask what the government can do for the poor Indians; ask what they can do for all the poor Malaysians.
If you are really sincere in wanting to help all the Malaysian poor which include the Indian poor, then please declare Hindraf’s support for Pakatan.
Like it or not, Pakatan is presently the only force that can topple this corrupt regime. Unity is strength.
Opah: I agree with Uthayakumar, except for one major amendment: the Malaysian public hope Pakatan leaders will spell out what they plan to do for the Malaysian poor within the first 100 days of taking Putrajaya.
And the announcement certainly should not be made at a Hindraf meeting.
Sadirah: Hindraf has made its point and it is time that they move onto a larger framework as otherwise race itself will see their demise.
In plural societies, we must work for justice for all and not just one community. So asking Pakatan to spell out plans for the Indian poor is misplaced.
The more we play ethnic politics, the more we will be imprisoned by race and this is one opportunity for us to move onto a larger cause based on justice, equity and fairness for all poor in Malaysia covering the Orang Asli, pribumi, etc, who are all Malaysians.
If Hindraf cannot get this context, then they are but another racist party like the BN.
Anonymous_3f68: What’s wrong with Hindraf championing the Indian cause when all along Umno was championing the Malays only.
Remember that if at all any race deserves more credit and respect, it’s the Indians and that’s because they were here first before all others.
ABBN: Uthayakumar, there are many rich men in the Malay, Chinese and Indian community. There are also many very poor Malays, Chinese and Indians.
BN is generally supported by the richest and mostly corrupted elite Malays, Chinese and Indians who have been looting this country for past 50 years at the expanse of the others, whereas Pakatan is now overwhelmingly supported by mainly the oppressed and marginalised middle-class to the poorest, who are asking for fairness and equal opportunity.
Pakatan is not fighting for the rights of a particular race but all, and moreover, there are more Indian leaders and supporters in Pakatan than Hindraf. Do you think these leaders will dare to neglect the poor?
Don’t try to be a lone hero. Let all the people be heroes. The poor Indians are not the only one suffered. Please be sensible and come back in unity for the common goal of getting rid of BN at this crucial hour.
Wanderer: Hindraf, how about recognising that the poor are colour blind? Why not join Pakatan and be part of the opposition team.
Perhaps, you could use your experience as a victimised race and contribute your ideas for the improvement of all poor Malaysians. If we stay divided, we will perish.
Let us not give these Umno folks the opportunity to oppress the minorities any further.
YF: Uthaya, are you saying the Indians in Hindraf can be bought at a price? You are talking to the wrong people. Corruption is that way, with that logo on the Putra World Trade Centre.
