Media Statement 21/6/12

All 523 Tamil Schools to be made fully aided HINDRAF lawyers High Court RM 55 Billion Civil Suit dismissed. 100 new Plaintiffs to file a fresh.

Yesterday (20/6/12) the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed the RM55 Billion Civil Suit against Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak and Education Minister to undo the injustices to the 55 years of Tamil School students bleak and miserable lives and to create upward mobility and business opportunities for them. Also dismissed were prayers for all 523 Tamil Schools to be made fully aided government schools and to be on par with any other Malay-sian school, that the Bukit Fraser Tamil School be given an allocation of RM200million and be converted into a fully residential elite Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) to enroll the 1,191 UPSR Tamil school students who had scored 7As in their UPSR examinations this year but denied places at MRSM and a Universiti Malaya campus to be built next to the Tanah Rata Tamil School in Cameron Highlands to train at least 1,000 graduate teachers for Tamil Schools nationwide.

The High Court dismissed the civil suit on the grounds that the Plaintiffs ie HINDRAF de facto leader P. Uthayakumar and State Assemblyman for Kota Alam Shah M. Manoharan do not have locus standi to institute this public interest civil suit in that they are not the aggrieved parties but merely acting in the general public interests of the Indian poor as their children are already in Secondary schools and not in Tamil schools. The Court then imposed costs of RM2,000.00 on P. Uthayakumar and M. Manoharan. Both would file an appeal against this decision to the Court of Appeal next week.

In the interim HINDRAF has today launched a Website, pamphlet, SMS, e-mail, Facebook and Twitter campaign to get together at least 100 parents who have children studying at Tamil Schools as aggrieved Plaintiffs to refile this very same civil suit.

An urgent meeting to be chaired by lawyers P. Uthayakumar and M. Manoharan to discuss this matter would be held at the HINDRAF HQ on Saturday 23/6/12 at 4.00pm @ No.6, Jalan Abdullah, off Jalan Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Tel: 03-22825241, S. Jayathas 0126362287, S. Thiaga 0193085944.

Thank you.
