KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court today issued a warrant of arrest against Kota Raja independent candidate P. Uthayakumar after he failed to attend his sedition trial.

Judge Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain issued the warrant after Uthayakumar’s bailor tendered his medical certificate to the court when the case was called before him.
The case was set to resume its hearing today.
The medical certificate stated that Uthayakumar was on medical leave from April 2 to May 17.
Deputy public prosecutor Azlina Rasdi told reporters that earlier she had applied to the court to issue a subpoena to the doctor who had treated Uthayakumar in order to clarify  Uthayakumar’s health condition.
“However, the judge issued a warrant of arrest against him,” she said.
The case will be mentioned on May 7.
Uthayakumar was charged with committing an act which had a seditious tendency by writing a letter addressed to Gordon Brown at No 10, Downing Street, London.
He allegedly committed the offence at No. 135-3-A, Jalan Toman 7, Kemayan Square in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, on Nov 15, 2007.
